Pediatric Dentistry

Knowing how imperative oral health is to one’s overall well-being, it is critical to start your child off with practicing good oral hygiene as early as possible. By visiting the dentist regularly and taking care of your child’s teeth and gums in between visits, you will be able to teach your child how to properly maintain their dental health. Pediatric Dentists play a significant role in your child’s life as they have a thorough understanding of your child’s oral needs.

Why are Healthy Baby Teeth Important?

For healthy permanent teeth and a remarkable smile, it is important to uphold the health of your child’s baby teeth. Because the Pediatric Dentist plays such an essential role in your child’s well-being, it’s important to start bringing them to the office as early as possible. In doing so, this will help them develop a trusting relationship with their dentist. The dentist is able to take a sympathetic approach to the child in order to enable them to feel comfortable and understand the importance of good oral health.

What Can I Expect at the First Visit?

Aside from the typical dental activity, our first concern is making sure our little patients feel as comfortable as possible and that they have a pleasant experience. Once we are able to make our patients feel at ease, we will then focus on caring for their oral health. The first visit can include digital x-rays, a full health history analysis, a thorough mouth exam, and an evaluation of the child’s dental needs. To rule out any potential problems, the dentist will also examine the child’s gums and surrounding tissues. Following these events, the child can expect to have a cleaning and fluoride treatment, as well as be taught how to brush and floss appropriately.

Not only does this initial visit provide value to the child, but it can also be beneficial for the parents. This is a wonderful opportunity for the parents to be educated on the significance of oral hygiene, the correlation of nutrition to dental health, cavity protection, the importance of fluoride, and all the other efforts involved in supporting your child’s teeth.
